Marvalous Milford Sound

What an amazing day! The drive to Milford Sound was on a twisty windy road that included a tunnel that was 1.5 km long. Milford Sound is nestled at the end of the only fiord that has direct road access in New Zealand. The walls that climb out of the fiord go well over 1300 m out of the Tasman Sea. Some of the mountains included glaciers. It's the number one to do thing in New Zealand as voted on by New Zealanders. Helicopters are continously taking visitors along the top of the mountains. We opted for the two hour boat nature encounter. The ride was windy at times, especially in the narrows of Milford Sound where winds whip up to 150 kph. Wow is all I can say about the views. Big walls protect the sound almost clear to the open Tasman Sea. Yes it was a touristy thing but it was well worth it for us.

This tunnel took almost 18 years to build. When you come out of the 1500m tunnel, the view is amazing!

A waterfall by the tunnel.

Looking towards Bowen Falls in Milford Sound from the boat.

A few seals in the sound.

The fiord walls are spectacular.

What a beautiful day in a spectacular place. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed being back on a boat in the ocean. That is always a special experience.
